The Color of Change, Black Women's Brunch was held in Downtown St. Louis, MO. on May 19th, 2018.  It was my pleasure to attend this empowering event at the America's Center, along with more than 500 other Black women from all walks of life. Upon entering the event, you are welcomed by The Color of Change Host Committee and met with Candice Fortin, Deputy Field Director. Guests were directed to the ballroom, which was full of beautiful décor, powerful inspirational women, togetherness and amazing music with St. Louis’ own DJ Kimmynu on the ones and twos. Kortni Malone was the host for Saturday’s brunch, she was a delight and full of energy as she cheered with the crowd; “When I say Black Girl, you say Magic!”

The Color of Change is the largest racial justice movement in the world.  Women of color have been supporting this organization since it was founded in 2005, but was in 2016 when the movement began to do more ground work to expand their reach. The Color of Change team travels to different cities across the Unites States holding events to empower, educate, and strengthen the black community.  Currently the group is hosting the Black Women’s Brunch, traveling to Detroit, MI, Miami, FL, Las Angeles, CA, Tampa, FL, St. Louis, MO, of course, just to name a few. I would like to personally thank The Color of Change team for inviting me to attend this lovely event, from the dance party, to the food, and most importantly the conversation, thank you. – Whitney Shucks
